Six ways you can help to Unlock The Power of Seaweed

Câr-y-Môr is working in partnership with WWF UK, Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), and Plant Ecology Beyond Land (PEBL) on a project to Unlock The Power of Seaweed in Pembrokeshire.

And we’d love for you to help us!

So here are six ways you can get involved and support a thriving sea farming industry for Wales…

1. Share Câr-y-Môr’s Story

It’s been incredible to witness the network we’ve built through our community business. We have members across the world, supporters who’ve never even set foot in Wales, and local people who’ve backed us from day one. It’s just magic.

Getting the word out there about who we are and what we do holds enormous value for Câr-y-Môr. So please do share our story on our Facebook and Instagram pages; via LinkedIn; or by joining us as a member for just £1.

2. Volunteer with Câr-y-Môr

Câr-y-Môr would not exist had it not been for the investment of time and skills our community has given us over the years. And there are so many ways we can support each other to continue in this vein.

Perhaps you have a few hours spare to put up posters in our community? Or to help our working team with the finishing touches at Sied-y-Môr? Does learning how we process our fresh seafood sound of interest? Maybe you’d like to take some stock photos we can use in promotional material? Or you know a creative young person who’s looking for portfolio work in design or copywriting?

However you might be able to volunteer your time and skills – please do drop us an email at members@carymor.wales

We are hugely grateful to be powered by volunteers.

3. Introduce Câr-y-Môr

Our partners include everyone from Michelin-star chefs to third-generation cockle gatherers. We work with multiple universities, schools and colleges. Our team has spoken at events from Global Welsh gatherings to WI coffee mornings. And our farmer friends have joined our seaweed trials for use on everything from forage to flowers.

• Could you name-drop us to a chef or restaurateur who values sustainable British ingredients?

• Do you know a farmer, gardener or grower who might be interested in using our natural seaweed biostimulant?

• Would a teacher or educator in your network like to hear more about our educational resources and workshops?

• Can you think of a business that would be keen to invest or collaborate with us?

• Or do you know of a group that would like to have a Câr-y-Môr speaker join them online, or host a seaweed workshop in-person?

Any introduction to our Community Benefit Society is very welcome.

4. Invest with Câr-y-Môr

We are so appreciative of the investments we receive that support us to grow our business and strategic projects. Investors have an equal share in our Community Benefit Society, ensuring we always have the best interests of people and planet front and centre.

Options include a one-off Crowdfunder investment, or making a monthly donation.

For alternative investment ideas, or to introduce us to a potential investor, please drop our Funding Director Tracey an email at tracey@carymor.wales

5. Shop with Câr-y-Môr

In 2024 we were delighted to bring The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company into our family to offer three ways to shop with Câr-y-Môr.

1. Shop Seaweed – sprinkle dulse on your roasted veg; dip your chips in kelpchup; or add laverbread to your leeks (check out Tomos Parry’s recipe here).

2. Shop Seafood – discover the freshest catch of Welsh shellfish and finfish, brought to shore by our fishing and gathering partners, and from our own sea farms.

3. Shop Gardening Products – take a look at our crushed crab shells (which make excellent pot-toppers), and liquid seaweed solutions that give ocean-sourced health to your plant-life.

6. Learn for Câr-y-Môr

Knowledge is power. We want more people to understand the potential of seaweed and how it can support people and planet.
